It seems as though scrub is installed by default now in Kali
How so? You wouldn't be logged in automatically after starting up.
Doesn't work for me
I love the user names of the people that are fond of this script, lol
Won't you still have to login twice using this method (in the instance of using gdm)?
STEP 1: Download and Install all Dependencies
Install lorcon:
cd /usr/src
apt-get install libpcap0.8-dev libnl-dev
git clone https://code.google.com/p/lorcon
cd lorcon
Apparently an update changed how startup scripts are run. Here, do this:
for i in {2..5}; do rm /etc/rc"$i".d/S27newhostname; done
rm /etc/init.d/newhostname
Then follow the modified steps...
I fail to see how copying 6 short lines of code and pasting it into a terminal qualifies as "all this."
I suppose everything is subjective though...
Wow, very efficient! I like...
Mind if include this in the initial post?
Given the popularity of this distro, seeing a computer named "kali" on a netowrk may raise a red flag. So, here is a way to avoid appearing as such:
To get situated, open a terminal and cd to your...
Very welcome. I have quite a collection of relatively short scripts I've written to automate certain tasks. I'll get around to posting more when I have some time.
It's nice to know when people...
Thanks, comaX, I've always enjoyed your script.
Glad to see an updated version.
You have to start the Nessusd server, before being able to connect to the server -- a step which OP failed to include.

You're welcome.
Easiest way to get back to command line from gnome would be using 2 sets of key cominbations.
First press: "Ctrl+Alt+F1"
Then, press: "Ctrl+C"
The first one will tab the...
No big deal, we all make mistakes.
Would you mind editing your first post to include this, though? A lot of users don't go past the first page.
For the sake of your OCD ;)
Do it the way I have it in the the initial post. If you edit the daemon as shown in Step 2, you'll only have to login once. I've added the additional, optional Step 3 to use classic startx to run...
Doing this will still require you to login twice on the occasions you decide to use gnome.
Neither "alternative" suggested in this thread accomplishes the same thing.
It's acutally located in /usr/sbin, but I actually did this after reading your comment. ;)
Typing startx is more natural to me. Plus, it can be done using only one hand!
Have you actually checked the runlevels on the default build of Kali?
I haven't changed mine, but after quickly glancing at the relevant directories, I don't believe this would accomplish the...
I'm pretty sure there is a way to add the 'minimize all windows' button to the taskbar using dconf, but I can't find it. Happen to know how to do this?
This worked perfectly for me as well.
Personally, I liberally send many files to the Trash (highlighting a file and right clicking and pressing "Move to Trash") to keep my desktop environment organized, but also keep those files on hand...
There are occasions when I want to boot into Kali as quickly as possible to run a few simple tasks. So, rather than dealing with a Desktop Environment, I like the default to be simply command line...
