Ignore the firmware complaint, plug in a network cable. I had the same issue on a pavillion g6. its not trying to dual-boot or anything though... Solely running kali on it.

I was having the same issue, as well.... dv7, too! Try plugging in a network cable and see what happens. It did the trick for me.
