Gnome freeze after login, XFCE-Desktop works fine.
If the installation of Kali was successful (no errors / automatically reboot) try to check your BIOS.
In Dell notebook you have to add the EFI-entry manual an change the boot order to:

During your installation to HDD, after setting the new user was a request to set a password for root.
This password is the one for the "su" command.
