For Basic linux commands i recommend all by Joe Collins or ezeelinux, for kali linux i recommend Hak5 or kali tut, hundreds of others with a wide variety of interest, probably quite a few good...

I Would uninstall it and try a fresh install, sounds like you have a few broken tools.
