Yes, you can install and boot Kali from the SSD.
I have got me the same hardware, but can't use it as an accesspoint.
Seems to be a either a driver problem or my lack of knowledge for me.

Problem solved.
I messed up format of config files
/etc/beef-xss/config.yaml
/usr/share/beef-xss/extensions/metasploit/config.yaml
with blanks !
beef starts and is loading metasploit...

metasploit v4.9.2-2014041601
beef 0.4.4.5-alpha
ruby 1.9.3p194 + gem sqlite3(1.3.9)
beef throws ruby exception calling...
