I am a newbie and have spent hours of research trying to resolve this.
The Dlink DWA-120 is really old but it uses the AR5523 chipset which does seem to be supported.
I am running Kali under Oracle VM. (have done all of the updates).
Eth0 works fine - the VM using the built in wifi of the laptop as eth0.
ifconfig only shows eth0 and lo no wifi0.
As mentioned in the title lsusb shows the D-Link device no problem.
There is no wifi option when I click on the network icon top right.
When I try and install latest Atheros drivers says latest already installed.
lshw shows usb:1 unclaimed for this Atheros device
I don't mind buying a later model usb wifi device for monitor mode but would really like to get this one to work.
Any help appreciated.
