Hello, I'm fairly new to Kali Linux

I'm trying to get my wireless adapter to show on iwconfig and ifconfig. Nothing is showing up
lsusb is showing the adapter is connected as well dmesg. It comes up with device descriptor read/64, error -32

I'm not sure if I'm doing something or how to resolve this issue.

The chipset in the adapter is a realtek 802.11n NIC I will be happy to provide more information for whoever is willing to help

    Thank you in advance

I've tried two Realtek chipsets with Kali.

rt8192su - Will NOT work with kali linux
This chipset behaves very erratically, symptoms range from turning on and off on its own (especially when trying to change the mac address) it does not support wpa2 security if you wanted to use it as a Hotspot. The options in hotspot mode are Open (No security) or WEP.

rt8188cu - Will WORK with kali linux
This one works great. Allows the user to change the mac address, supports wpa2 security in hotspot mode and has excellent range.

All Ralink or MediaTek chipsets have also worked very well.

Do you have another wifi adapter maybe, doesn't have to be new.

    Let us know,

    Alex

    Find out Realtek driver

I bought a Realtek usb-wifi adapter and wanted to install the driver:
First i ran: sudo apt-get update
Than: I plugged in the usb-stick and typed lsusb:

    root@kali:~# lsusb
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0bda:b812 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. 802.11ac NIC
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 0e0f:0002 VMware, Inc. Virtual USB Hub
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 0e0f:0003 VMware, Inc. Virtual Mouse
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub

Than: sudo apt search realtek, but i dont find the right driver, because there's no name.

I have a VM ware with kali 2019.4

    Wich driver can i chose

Hey, everybody. As I read on the Internet, the problem is with the new 5.4 kernel. Help to solve the problem. The system doesn't see the built-in wifi module intel ac 9560. Awus036nh via usb works fine.

Issue with my Alfa AWUS036ACM, Kali 2020.1, Linux version 5.4.0-kali3-amd64 ([email protected]) (gcc version 9.2.1 20200104 (Debian 9.2.1-22)) #1 SMP Debian 5.4.13-1kali1 (2020-01-20)

    here is the dmesg:
[72229.889245] usb 4-1: new SuperSpeed Gen 1 USB device number 3 using xhci_hcd

As I understood from Alfa support, this version of Kernel does not need driver installed, it already has them, but it does not work, I tried installing drivers as well and it fails in "make install"

new full-speed USB device number error while in rescue mode

    Hello,

I loaded Kali DVD and entered rescue mode (systemctl rescue) and I get the USB error over and over even when I am modifying a document with nano editor. The error messages appeared in the middle of the commands I enter (image below) is this normal?

    https://ibb.co/84fFQ7v

The error, although the device number keeps changing (i. e., 7, 8, 9, n) is:

usb 2-14: New full-speed USB device number 127 using xhci_hcd
    usb 2-14: New USB device found, idVendor=138a, idProduct=0050, bcbDevice= 0.60
    usb 2-14: New USB device strings: Mfr=0, Product=0, SerialNumber=1
    usb 2-14: SerialNumber: 20100020d28d
usb 2-14: USB disconnect, device number 127

    Thank you

Hello . I recently installed kali 2020.2a , but the biggest problem is the wifi . I mean , I am connected to the internet via ethernet , but actually I'm from my laptop ( Windows 10 --VMbox--Kali) and also I'm from wifi , not ethernet .

The thing is I tried everything that there is on youtube , on sites etc and the closest for me was to make kali show "wifi dissabled" .

After that I can not enable it , I can't even click it on top right .

I tried network-manager , I changed the network manager file from "false" to "true" , I installed like 2 or 3 different compat-wireless , did some tests with iwconfig , airmon-ng etc . Nothing works .

Before you say that if you already have internet access to kali via the vmbox , why do you need it . Because I want to search for other wifi devices around me so I can try programms like wifi passwords .

    Dear almon ,

As per your above post I realised that you have windows10 as host machine

You have installed Kali linux on VM .

The host machine having wifi card into it

Through that you can access your internet on Kali Machine by ethernet adaptor .

The answer for this question is -

you have to install kali as host-machine else you have to access internet through ethernet on host machine and that adaptor you have to share with VM and select your wifi from

adding (if you are using Virtual Machine Application ) VM ->USB setting add your wifi adaptor or you have to buy usb adaptor .

Because by default your VM sharing internet of Your host machine and wifi card not detected into it

I have an Hp 215 laptop and i have a wireless driver problem that i need some help with. Kali says it is broadcom b43 and the driver does work to a certain extent. i have digged and digged and i just cant seem to find the answer. So when i go to run fern wifi cracker, i get an error message saying that there was a problem setting up monitor mode. The Network Manager cuts out and i have to reboot to make the driver work again. Now as Kali suggests, i read the airmon-ng documentation to find some solutions, but fern wifi cracker still doesnt work. So if i run the commands sudo airmon-ng check kill, i completely loose the network manager and cannot start it again with the service start command and have to reboot to make things normal again but when i use the sudo ifconfig down iwconfig wlan0 mode monitor ifconfig wlan0 up and everything works for the aircrack suite. i can dump and see networks and inject, everything on that end works, but my problem is when other programs like fern wifi cracker putting the card down in monitor mode. nothing wants to work after that. And i can put the card back in managed mode after im done using the aircrack suite. So i have a pretty unique problem i would say and i am asking for guidance. I tried to best to explain my issue thoroughly and trying not to be a noob but i am still kinda new to all this. Thanks

hey everyone, sorry for my poor english, Dad told me there are drivers for rt73 which allow you to increase the power of the card, but I can't find them. Does anyone know anything about this?

    hi everyone,
ive been having an issue trying to install drivers for my wireless, when i type iwconfig it shows no network adapters are connected.

so i've been trying to install Compat wireless for awhile now, following the instructions with the software, but i keep getting the following error:

    /sbin/modprobe: invalid option -- 'l'
    /sbin/modprobe: invalid option -- 'l'
    Stoping bluetooth service..
    Stopping bluetooth: /usr/sbin/bluetoothd.
bluetooth is not running ... failed!

now the problem here is i don't have a bluetooth device attached or installed on my laptop just a wireless card Atheros AR9485.
for some reason it keeps thinking i have a bluetooth device, i purchased a bluetooth usb adaptor to try and bypass this, ive tried to start the bluetooth service
using "service --status-all" i can see bluetooth is not running and when i go to start the service or restart it will attempt to but wont actually start.

i've also tried to install BroadcomInstaller2017 with the following error,

    Please enter your choice: 1

I have just installed Kali 20.3 with the 5.9.0 kernel and it wont compile the driver for my RTL8192EU chipset TL-WN822N USB network adapter. The make file returns an error message

Hello Community, I'm desperate. For a few days I have been trying to use my external wifi adapter (Alfa Network AWUS051NH v.2) in the Kali Linux version installed in VirtualBox. I found instructions in vain, which is why I am writing this post.

So I use Kali Linux (latest version) in the VirtualBox. Then I connect the ALFA Long-Range USB Adapter. This is also displayed. Then I open the terminal -> airmon-ng (map is displayed) then airmon-ng start wlan0 (works fine so far) but as soon as I start airodump-ng wlan0mon, it runs for a short time and then shows me no more WiFi connections .

I've only recently started working with Kali. And then looked for instructions on how I could possibly install a new driver, but couldn't find anything suitable.

    I ask for your support.

    best regards

    Question Has RTL8723DE reached support?

    Hello,

I wanted to ask if Realtek RTL8723DE 802.11b /b/g/n PCIe adapter is supported nowadays. I had to stick to windows as this wireless adapter was not supported in the past. Is it safe moving to kali now?

    Windows 10 host
    Kali Linux guest
Intel wifi 6 ax 200 160Mhz built in my x570 Tomahawk motherboard...

1)Could someone explain what is different from a builtin motherboard ethernet card and a wifi builtin motherboard? I'LL answer you, there is no difference... it's indeed an error of configuration in vm! (Ethernet card is always set in NAT MODE on all vm software)
2)Is there a way to implement a pci peripheral like builtin motherboard wifi like ethernet and all card do?

I've a partial explanation on what I saw on internet (if they are not all liars or the video are fake) : Enable your internal wifi card as your second network adapter in bridge mode and see what happen...
I've tryied both on vmware and virtualbox and the card appear as the virtualizated pci but not like wifi and didn't work because you can't choose a wifi network and it can't be recognized like a wifi...

3)Is possbile to change a way to recognize a peripheral from ethernet card to wifi card?

As i said before my wifi card is recognized when i setup in bridge mode but like an ethernet card and i need to make recnognizable like a wifi card.

    Thanks for your attention

    Hey all,

I'm pretty green (very green) to this Kali Linux thing and pentesting in general. I am working through a Kali Linux tutorial on Youtube at the moment from 2017 that shows how to use aircrack-ng and reaver. Trouble is, I had to buy a USB wireless adapter so I could use monitor mode, or at least most forums have led me to believe I can't use internal wireless cards to activate monitor mode. I bought two and the one I want to use is the tp-link Archer T4U.

I have downloaded the linux drivers for this to my Kali Linux root user from https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/d...er-t4u/#Driver. The one I chose was "Archer T4U(US)_V3_180511_Linux" beacuse the only other file is in Beta.

This file came with a PDF showing how to put the drivers onto Kali Linux. I have done the first steps--install kernal header files--and have made it to the part of the instructions where I need to compile the file. The instructions tell me:

"2.1.3. Compile Driver SourceUse Terminal to go to the driver directory. Run the following commands to compile the
    driver.

    Code:
    $ make clean
    $ make
After compiling, you can see a name of the chip.ko file is stored in the directory of the
    driver."

This isn't working for me for some reason, I run the "ls" command and there is no ".ko" in the directory. This is the ouput I get when I run "make clean", "make":

    Code:
    ┌──(root💀kali)-[~/[Parent Location]/[Child File]/rtl88x2BU_WiFi_linux_v5.2.4.1_22719.20170613_COEX20170518-4444_AddLED]└─# make clean

What I am speculating is going wrong:

    1.
My version of the Kali Linux OS is unable to compile this file.
Why I think this: The driver download location on the tp-link website states its for the "Linux kernel version 2.6.18~4.4." OS.
    2. I am not following the instructions correctly.
Why I think this: I am very new to this and I human.
    3. The instructions are leaving things unsaid an experienced user might have known.

In anycase, experienced feedback on my prediciment would be appreciated. I am very excited to learn about penetration testing and get some hands-on experience and experienced pen testers tell me this is the way to go. If you explain it like I am 5, I will be grateful as well. I want to get working or understand why it won't.

Also, if you have suggestions of open-source resources to learn from (hands-on preferred) I would love to add them to my list. I am suprisingly hungry to learn about all this.

    Cheers!

I got a Cudy WC1300 AC which has the Realtek RTL8812BU chipset which can go into monitor mode (tested and works). Before getting it to work in Kali via VirtualBox on Windows 10, I installed it following the directions on the Cudy website, namely downloading the tar.gz and performing a make and make install. It requires that I issue a "modprobe 88x2bu" on startup to get the adapter to be recognized. For some reason putting 88x2bu in /etc/modules doesn't do that automatically. Go figure.

Anyway I'm able to go to wireless networks when I first start Kali and it finds several networks around, including mine. I click to connect and it tries for a few seconds then errors out and says it can't connect. Then suddenly it doesn't find any wifi networks to try to connect to. Occasionally it'll ask me repeatedly for the WPA key (which I enter in) and eventually it just goes back to a "not connected" state.

    Any ideas?

I also had a Realtek 8723 wifi on my notebook. It was not working with Kali 1.0.5. Upgraded to 1.0.6 and it started working. I guess more drivers would be available with the new version.

I'm having the same issue after updating/full-upgrade. I had no wifi issues prior to updating.

Recap: Wifi networks are seen in network list, but when I attempt to connect, the password is rejected.

Troubleshooting: I have removed the wifi network from the network list and attempted to connect to my primary network and my guest network, the passwords are not being accepted. Seems the password is not being sent correctly or the handshake isn't working.
