How to speed up apt-get update?

I did "apt-get update && apt-get upgrade", and it showed me 492mb of update. Now, I am getting around 3KB/s speed while my connection is of 2Mbps. The time left is over 2 days -.-'

Any ideas of speeding up the process? Can't I use some mirrors or something?

    Thanks in advance. =)

    Hello CrazyBeast,
The download of updates/upgrades are automatically redirected to your closest location supporting server.

Are you using a Proxy or VPN? That could delay things a bit...

    Best regards,

When you look at: http://docs.kali.org/kali-support/kali-linux-mirrors, you can select a mirror near to you, with a good transfer speed.
You have to edit your sources.list file, to change the mirror site. Hope this helps...

i got that same problem with an old laptop wich was an old xp. However on my newer laptops it goes much faster so i'm guessing ram and cpu are also a major factor... maybe

They certainly are. Also network speeds. With older cards that don't have the same throughput you might see longer download times.

Although the server location is a major factor, the time you download is also considered. While the server demand at different times vary,it may affect your download speed as well.
