I had the same problem and had to do a complete uninstall and db purge before reinstalling. I'm glad that it's up and working for you now.

Hi,
since last (1.0.9a I suppose) apt-get dist-upgrade I cannot find back openvasad anymore ;( does anybody have the same trouble ?

btw even after apt-get purge openvas && apt-get install openvas , I'm not able to redo the initial setup through kali menu. old users still exists (but I cannot logon anymore).
any hint welcome
