Question Grub failed on install to USB

I am trying to install Kali 1.04 to a USB hardrive. My current machine is a MacBook 5.3 running a kubuntu based distro on an encrypted hard drive...as well as rEFInd. I was able to get a live USB to boot the install using Universal USB Installer and copying an /EFI/BOOT folder with BOOTX64.efi, grubx64.efi, and a grub.cfg file to the thumbdrive. I was unable to actually boot Kali from this but was able to run the installer, which I wanted to do anyways. Anyways, I used the installer to partition a new USB and install Kali to the new drive as I would in a HDD install, but during the installation, Grub fails to install to "/TARGET/", thus making the drive unbootable for me. Is there anyway I can install grub to the USB drive manually or boot into the installed USB with rEFInd?

There is an official way to build your USB for that purpose, I sugest you do it.

    Find it here: http://docs.kali.org/installation/ka...ve-usb-install

DO NOT USE OTHER SOFTWARE THAT HASN'T BEEN TOLD BY OFFENSIVE SECURITY TECHS !!!!!!

For a reason we say: "Do it at your own risk."

I have attempted many times to create a Live USB using that guide without success.

I'm pretty **** sure I have successfully created a live USB of Kali Linux 1.0.5 64-Bit ISO. It boots and runs with the USB quite well but when I try and install it to my internal hard drive I get this f.u.b.a.r. message

"The 'grub-pc' package failed to install into /target/ ...
    '

I've disabled the UEFI / EFI b.s. from my TOSHIBA laptop so I don't know why I need to F-around with this "How-to-EFI-install-Kali"

    https://forums.kali.org/showthread.p...l+%2Ftarget%2F

    MAYBE I DO, MAYBE I DON'T?

I don't know exactly how to check the SHA1SUM tag on the iso image, but it wouldn't hurt if I only knew how:

    http://www.kali.org/downloads/

Kali Linux 1.0.5 64-Bit ISO or Torrent
    SHA1SUM: 914eebd1ae64015d4d8b2281143caa466d44b280
    2.5 GB (2,525,937,664 bytes)
Anyways I found this thread and wonder how pertinent this information is:

    Any other advice?
