persistence live usb with fat data partition?

I have followed the directions to make a live cd with persistence and they work flawlessly! but i would like to mix it up a little.... I have a 64gb usb disk that i would like to create 3 partitions on....
    1) Kali Live (≈3gb)
    2) persistence (≈27gb)
    3) fat32 storage drive (≈27gb)

Heres my problem. If I create the fat32 partition with gparted when I create the persistence partition it works for mac or linux but if i try to use the usb disc on a windows machine the fat32 partition "needs to be formatted". If I do that it wipes out the first partition (Kali Live). I could get this to work by doing a full install to the usb but I find a live disk runs faster even with persistence and if I ever screw something up I can just delete the files from the persistence partition and stat again.

if anyone knows how I can accomplish this I would love some help!

  2. The 'needs to be formatted' is normal under windows. Actually after you install kali onto any disk, it will convert the drive partitions to its own format (ext4?) (Not sure about the persistence partition) However even if it stayed fat32 when you plug in your usb, windows will not see it because of the kali partition.

Now for a work around you can find some third party windows software to install that will "recognize a linux partition". You may have to mount the drive first in windows using said software.

i dont think you understand. its not an ext4 partition. partition 3 is a fat 32 partition formatted fat32 in kali. its like dual booting a computer when you install kali it wont change all your partitions to ext 4 and if you have a fat32 drive it will be read by all available operating systems. I have this working will a full install to the flash drive..... i would just like a live usb disc better.

  6. I understand what you are trying to achieve, the issue is your partitions setup I believe. Right now you have Kali as your first partition, so when you plug in your drive, windows sees it as a partition it can't read thus asking to format the drive. In order to get Windows to see the windows friendly partition I believe the usb boot sector needs to know that its there.. Maybe you can show us what is on the boot sector?

    dd if=/dev/sdb1 of=whatsinthisfile.txt bs=11 count=1

Here's a thread that someone came up with a solution to achieve what you are asking:

It all has to see with boot record in USB..All info about partitions in USB are contained in the boot record, created by kali linux install...So winbugs wont be able to read it, although it sees it, it has to wipe out all usb to CREATE a PARTITION TABLE, leaving the usb as merly a Storage device...

You might want to make winbugs to see partition using a Third party software to make winbugs be able to manage that 32bit FAT 32 partition in USB.
