Kali/Backtrack USB bootable on Windows8/Ubuntu problem

    Hi,
Since 16 hours I’m trying to make a bootable USB

    I have:
    -2x USB capacity 16gb (every)
    -1x USB capacity 4gb

I’m working on laptop Lenovo B590 (Windows 8)

Before I will describe what systems and which ways I’ve tried to upload on USB I’ll point that, Ubuntu 12.04.3 Desktop uploaded on USB is bootable normally.
    2. I’ve download many versions (32 and 64 bit!) Kali from 1.0 to 1.0.5, Backtrack 3 (which was working without any problems before on my HP laptop) and also Backtrack 5.

I was trying to install every of this programs while using:
-Unetbooting v5.85 (perhaps alternative way, when Win32 Disk Imager is not working)
-Win32 Disk Imager (Recommended of official Kali’s website) in versions 0.8 and 0.9
    -Universal-USB-Installer 1.9.5.1 and 1.9.3.1

With ever “successful” (in theory) attempt everything was fine but with effort to start-up system with USB nothing happened (I’ve also tried with BOOT menu i I have turned off the Secure Boot)

I’ve tried to install this systems on USB while being on Ubuntu and I also failed. The progress was stopping on 66% or <80% and there was an error:
"An uncaught exception was raised: Invalid version string "GNU/Linux"

I did this with official guides, youtube guides so long so forth.

Does anyone know how to solve this?

  2. You mentioned windows 8... I believe your issue lies possibly with the UEFI boot loader. Have you seen this page https://forums.kali.org/showthread.p...all-Kali-Linux it might be what you are looking for.

Edit* I didn't know that secure boot could be turned off ..

    What i did:

    - I put Kali on 16 GB pendrive with Universal USB Installer
    - Enter BIOS setup, find Startup and change from UEFI/Legacy Boot to Both
    - Startup Priority change to Legacy First
    - CSM support to Yes

After that Kali should boot from USB (of course if you also set in boot menu priority for USB).

Anyway on my notebook Kali is now working
