Hi everyone,
This is probably not something too many people do and I'm finding it hard to locate an answer.
First off this is my set-up:
Base Operating system: OSX 10.6.8
Firewall in OSX is turned off to allow incoming connections.
I have No-IP running in OSX so that I have a static ip.
I'm running Kali Linux in Virtual Box.
I have the VM running Kali set to "Bridged adapter"
The way I access the internet is to use a wifi tether to one of my phones.
One phone is using the verizon network, the other is using the sprint network.
On the sprint phone I use the app "wi-fi tether". On the Verizon phone I use the tethering function included in android.
This works perfectly for accessing the internet from my computer.
THE PROBLEM:
I want to run tests using client side attacks in metasploit (browser_autopwn), BeEf, and SET (social engineering toolkit).
What I get is my internal IP (192.xxx.xxx.xx) when using any of those tools and if I IFCONFIG at the command prompt I get the local IP as well.
Is there a way for Kali (or Virtual Box) to an external IP address when attempting a client side attack.
RELATED INFO:
I have metasploit community edition running on a VPS that works fine but I can't install Kali because of the problem of running Virtual Box on a VPS.
One more thing....My external ip is different when I use "whatsmyip.com" than what the "No-ip dynamic updater" shows. Not sure which one is right.
Let me know if you need more infomation.
Thanks!
