Issue loading firmware/driver for laptop WiFi

I have a Lenovo Ideapad Y510P (59405661 Model)

The Wireless Card is an Intel Wireless-N 7260 (802.11bgn) card
I downloaded the wireless driver from http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/iwlwifi, opened the file, and copied the .ucode file into /lib/firmware/

I haven't been able to get it to load the driver and am still unable to connect to wireless networks. Is there anything I'm missing or anything else I could try?

After some long hard searching I found a solution!!!
First of all, the firmware file mentioned in the original post needs to be put into /lib/firmware/


Then: modify the file /etc/apt/sources.list and add the following lines:

deb http://http.kali.org/kali kali-dev main/debian-installer

Then run:

apt-get update
apt-get upgrade 
apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-$(uname -r)
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
apt-get dist-upgrade

After this, I restarted the computer and it worked! However this might do the same thing for anybody else trying (if not then just restart)

modprobe -r iwldvm  <--If it is not loaded, OK, please proceed
modprobe -r iwlwifi <--If it is not loaded, OK, please proceed
modprobe iwlwifi

Edit: Wow, this killed 3 birds with one stone for me. My Wireless and Ethernet weren't working, AND the computer wouldn't shut down properly. After this, EVERYTHING is now working!

I've bolded the issue. Just change it to non-free in the sources file

I have this same problem. It seems as if the driver isn't installed correctly on my end. Your fix posted above didn't solve it for me however, I've tried many other solutions to get it fixed. Nothing so far. My problem is that it doesn't show up as Intel 7260 when i do a lspci in shell. It shows as some generic (random?) Intel device.

That's where I'm stuck right now.

Edit:Found a solution that worked for me.

WARNING: This is a git made especially for Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro (and other Lenovo Yoga) laptops. This will likely not work for other makes or models. Proceed on your own risk.

First of all, fresh hard disk install of Kali 1.0.8 is required. Run below as root.

1) Start terminal. Input: apt-get update && apt-get upgrade -y <--- First we update and upgrade so everything is up to date.
2) In terminal write: aptitude -r install linux-headers-$(uname -r)
3) In terminal write: apt-get build-dep linux-image-$(uname -r)
4) git clone https://github.com/pfps/yoga-laptop.git
5) make ideapad-laptop
6) make ideapad-laptop-install
7) You will/might receive an error regarding:
"udevadm hwdb --update missing or unknown command". This is OK. The main priority is that lines above execute without any errors.
8) reboot

Result: Trackpad is not as twitchy. WIFI + Bluetooth works again without problems.

I hope this solution can help some as it took me a solid three days to find a good solution for my make and model. If it helped you, please let me and others know!

After days of searching and trying stuff, I just followed the instructions by chili555 at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2242147&page=2 and my wifi is finally working. I'm running an ASUS Q302LA with kernel 3.14 and an Intel AC7260 wireless card (device 08b1, subsystem device 4c70.)

I just installed kali Linux on my Lenovo yoga 2 pro via vmware and using bridged Connection.

If i lspci it dont show any wireless adapter!

Unfortunately i cant apt-get update if there is no inetconnection...

i installed now kali a few times over vmware (bridged connection).

updating sourcelist and follow instructions of plasmawaffle ends here in a blackscreen after rebooting.

now i wanted to try radiofreq tip, just stuck with the git clone. make ideapad-laptop doesnt seem to work! (no rule to make target)

now after restarting, a Login for Gnome Linux appears, without working with my username and pw...

Need help please :S
