    Oh No something went wrong

    Hello Guys

So finally got a dvd live with no errors but when finishing the install I got Oh No something went wrong message. Is there something I can do in a different run level or post some type of log so that we can find out why this not running. If you have any hardware questions or os questions please ask. It runs find in live mode fyi so I dont think its the media

The only thing I was't sure was if should load grub. Because its a vm I assumed yes and went from there.

When you get that error, press Ctl+Alt+F1, this will take you to the terminal tty1, now login as root:

    login: root
    password: "your password"..

Once as root, start the X's: startx

You will get your desktop...This might be a xauthority issue or dbus issue when loadind, perhaps a daemon.

Try this first and if it works, try doing this: dpkg-reconfigure gnome-shell, then reboot.

Pls check your vm storage free space. 8GB storage is not enough for Kali. You've to give it more free space. Hope this will help you.

I had the same issue and what worked for me was resizing the virtual disk.

I found the solution here http://unix.stackexchange.com/q/139460/72456

    Hope that helps.

I have the same problem, and it is driving me up the wall. I keep getting the same error.

I have installed startx etc etc

    Ran dpkg-reconfigure gnome-shell

Changed the version to Debian 64 via settings.

The disk size is 20gb which i thought would be enough.

What methods can i use to diagnose the problem? Im from a windows background, so I am not entirely sure where to start troubleshooting. I suppose I could re-install but I would like to know where everything is going wrong.

It may have messed up when I added the source repositries and install vpnc-network manager, I ran upgrade and the GUI ha changed to a newer version, so that could be the reason. After running startx I am brough to a desktop which is completely black, with a new task bar on top and on the left.

    Any one else experiencing this?
