APT download speeds?

I am getting ridiculously slow download speeds whenever I try either apt-get update, or apt-get upgrade, etc. My internet connection is relatively fast, but I am getting speeds of 15 kB/seconds. I have tried changing my repositories, trying out the apt-fast program, but nothing works. I am getting the same problems on all 3 of my Kali VM's, along with my full Kali install on my desktop. Any ideas, as it is taking hours when I need to update my OS?

I've found a solution: simply change the sources.list file, making sure to change the entries where it says http://http.kali.org to http://repo.kali.org.

I've just realized that the repositories which are of the form http://security.kali.org/, are still downloading very slowly. Will changing these to repo also work? Or is there a different type of server for security updates which downloads at full speed, just like the repo servers do for the http servers?
