Question Some of your hardware needs non-free firmware files to operate ...

I installed Kali today, but as I was doing so I got a message:

Some of your hardware needs non-free firmware files to operate. The firmware can be loaded from removable media ...
The missing firmware files are: b43/ucode15.fw b43-open/ucode15.fw

I'm a Linux virgin, what do I do now?

press "no" and keep the installation going.

Remember my friend one and very important thing, Debian is very close to "non-free" app, to say: flash, some non-free firmwares (needed to make hardware work in proper manner like wifi drivers), java, etc.

It is telling you my friend that if you have a usb with those firmwares (let's say your wifi needs a private firmware and you have it in a usb as .fw) you might want to do so, in such case, after installation, you will have your wifi oparating normally, otherwise, after installation, you will have to install the firmware.

In such case, you want to use ethernet interface to keep installing the kali.

It is no error message, it is a warning, saying: "hey if you do not have the firmware to the wifi card, it cannot be used, instead, use ethernet (eth0)"..

For what you posted, it is a wifi broadcom card, do not worry, those firmwares are in the kali repos. Install them after installation.

So, say "No" and it will use ethernet.

After installation you can download the wifi driver.

    Luck.

    Thank you.

It's a ALFA AWUS036NH Wireless USB WiFi Adapter.
How do I get the firmware from "the kali repos" and "download the wifi driver"?

A search for b43/ucode15.fw turned up references to an Alpa Wi-Fi adaptors, so I assumed that was what the message referred to.

As far as I know the alfas do not use broadcom chipset.

I'm quite positive the message is referring to the internal wifi card, not Alfa. Keep the install going with the "No" option and then connect the alfa.

Once connected either via Alfa usb or cable (eth), install the broadcom firmware.

    Try using ethernet instead.

After complete installation, then try installing the .fw firmware either from repos or verndor's homepage.
