As the creator of the VMware Tools page for openSUSE, I can say that 99.99% of everything I wrote for openSUSE applies to Kali on Debian as well.
I even include instructions similar to what is now described in the Kali Docs, but that procedure only applies to kernels 3.x and older (who's still doing that?)

The only thing in Kali that is different than in openSUSE is the installation command of course which is

After that, the User can walk himself through the entire openSUSE article from the top starting with running
Recommend someone update the Kali docs...
