My friend has given me a computer with a broken hdd with no backups made ... And asked me to try and recover the files. I have booted up into a live kali forensic mode then proceeded to mount the disk image for the drive. The results are if i select properties i find it says 235.8 GB used yet contents is : nothing. This suggests the files still exist on the drive yet all the references are gone. I tried the fdisk -l command to start the process of recovering the "deleted" files yet it didnt return anything.
I am at a loss of what to try next any help would be appreciated i am quite new to this.
All the details i have about the laptop so far are it is a dell inspiron intel dual core running windows 7.
