The problem was solved as follows

    - Formatting the USB Pen Drive using the FAT32 file system
    - Then run the command again to overwrite the flash drive with the image of Kali operating system

    Hi,

I'm getting a similar error message when attempting live boot, and haven't yet resolved it.
    here are the details:
    - I've verified the SHA1 of the iso (kali-linux-1.1.0a-amd64.iso - 2b8d2db20e2709c5e9e0f9f9bbd8606c9b9e729f).
    - I've burned the iso into an SD card using Win32DiskImager version 0.9.5.
    - the SD card is 16GB. I've tried formatting it both to FAT32 and TNFS before burning the iso and attempting the live boot.
    - both Live (amd64) and Live (amd64 failsafe) boot options are leading to this error.

    please advice.
    see error message in attachment.
