I've read dozens of threads on this, but I'm still confused. I've got an ALFA AWUS036NH which uses the Ralink RT2870. I've just done a clean install of kali-linux-1.0.7-i386. Similar to when I last installed, it asked me if I wanted it to load firmware for the RT2870, I didn't have the relevant file, so I said no.
The card is connecting OK to my test WEP AP, but when I run Fern (OK, I know, but I'm a noob) it reports: mon0 is not injecting or proximity is low despite being right next to the AP! I had this before which is one reason I did the install of the latest version of Kali.
I've since discovered a link to Linux firmware on the Mediatek site. I can obviously download this, but then what do I do? Do I also need to install a driver?
As I said, I'm a Linux noob. I can follow a script in Terminal, but will be lost if not given the details of what to type.
