grub error: out of disk

Getting this error:
GRUB loading
Welcome to GRUB

error: out of disk
Entering rescue mode....
grub rescue>

Downloaded kali x86 v 1.0.8 and burned to cd and completed install in HP/Compaq nc6320 which previously had and ran kali 1.0.6. Since installing 1.0.8 three times, same result and now looking here for answers.

Any thoughts/suggestions/recommendations?

I need help with the same issue !

Here are the steps which ultimately worked. Using the laptop with only kali installed, no dual boot.

- used guided partitioning, largest contiguous space
- all files and directories under /
- modified partitions to the following
created 200MB primary partition for /boot
deleted and recreated 300GB logical partition for /
deleted and recreated 2.1GB logical partition for swap

The above steps are what worked, and may NOT be the only viable solution. Again, this is what worked.
