Can't ping using domain name

facing a strange issue with my Kali linux in my VM. It was working fine.

Now unable to ping any sites by the domain name. It shows unable to resolve the domain. However pinging using ip address is working.

entry in etc/resolve.conf is as follows.

domain mykali
search mykali
nameserver 192.168.239.2 - (assigned by VM using VMnet8)

Please provide some trouble shooting steps.

sounds like you are on the right track troubleshooting DNS.


can you ping external domains? google.com?

have you switched the name servers in resolve.conf to public name servers? (4.2.2.1, 8.8.8.8, etc)
