Can a 802.11b/g wireless card sniff 802.11n traffic?

I'm planning to buy a B/G wifi card like AWUS036H, which doesn't support N wifi. The thing is, could I use successfully the aircrack family and wireshark in monitor mode and perform injections, or better buy a newer card?

I don't quite understand the question, but you will be able to test against your own network with that card.

I personally have the AWUS036NHA and it works well. Still no 5Ghz though. I don't think there are many 5Ghz cards for injection and monitor mode on the market at the moment.

802.11 b/g cards can only sniff 802.11b/g traffic. They cannot see 802.11n traffic. See caveats A & B, below.

Caveat A: Many 802.11n APs are configured to allow b/g connections. Once you have an IP connection, all kinds of things are possible, including ARP cache poisoning, mac-floods, MITM attacks, etc...

Caveat B: Even if the sender / receiver have 802.11n radios, and the attacker only has 802.11b/g, it's very possible to direct RF jamming signals towards an 802.11n sender / receiver and make them intentionally fall back to 802.11b/g data rates.

I'm actually using the AWUS051NH, dual band 150mbps on 2.4ghz and 300mbps on 5ghz. Works well but you'll have to search for it online, it's no longer being manufactured. Check eBay from sellers like Rokland (Alfa reseller) and DBroth. I don't re commend the NHR yet, sti no confirmation on how we'll it works, or you could try the new NHV... There's also an AWUS036AC on Rokland's page, dual band, N on 2.4ghz and AC on 5ghz (867mbps). However, it hasn't been confirmed working (I sent a question to Rokland and they're generally up to date with their products) but it would be nice to have for the future.
