First Timer

I have read that this distro is not intended for beginners and I get it.
What linux skills do I need to learn for me to use this.
In the past I have tried Ubuntu, Linux_Mint and OpenSuse
I am able to use it only on VMWAREs so I don't have enough troubleshooting skills for LiveUSB/LiveCD installation.

But what do I need to know for me to be able to understand how this distro works?

You should know the basic commands (nano, cat, echo, man, apt-get, ifconfig ...) and you should have a basic knowledge about how a linux system works in general.
Just try Kali Linux, it isn't that difficult.
