VirtualBox won't capture mouse or keyboard after installing linux guest additions

I recently installed Linux Guest Additions and upon reboot I cannot use the mouse or keyboard after grub loads. I can select options within grub but as soon as the login screen loads I cannot use the mouse or keyboard to login.

VirtualBox
Windows 8.1

Did you install the guest additions from Windows or from Kali?
