nexus 7 kismet display issues

Hello all,

The tablet in question is a nexus 7 with a stock 4.4 fresh install.
using the kalimenu to launch kismet I get

Which looks visually disturbing but IS actually working in the background..

I have used kismet remotely on the device via ssh and it runs with no such display issue
the $TERM used in both cases is xterm-256color... what am I missing?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Experiencing same issue on Nexus 7 2012 3g unit.
