Post best external wifi dongle to use with nethunter for wifi attacks

    Hey guys,

I wanted to start a new thread and see what everybody suggests on what is the best external wifi dongle that works well with kali nethunter for wifi attacks.

I have a nexus 5 phone and alfa card AWUS036H that works flawless with kali nethunter very stable, only a few issues were

    1. card a bit big for a phone
    2. drains the battery after about 2 hours of continues attacks (at least from my experience using reaver)

I managed to add on a solar powered external battery power bank and it kept the phones battery from getting drained **** i even threw in a keyboard lol

Would love to hear your experiences and suggestions on this.

    Heres some pictures

I use AWUS036NHA and a WNA1000 USB cards, and they both work well. Dont forget that you have y-cable support, so you can charge the device and use the wireless USB as the same time.

thanks muts, will definitely get those cards you suggested. i started using my nexus phone with the y-cable and hooked it up to a portable power bank appreciate your help

Nice but too big and too many cables.
    I like it simple )

    Battery: 4-5hours at full injection

    While were at it:

What ALFA Card is the "best" for Pentest?:

    AWUS036H
    AWUS036NH
    AWUS036NHA

Do they all have 1Watt Output Power?

In my opinion, if you need 802.11n support, you should go with AWUS036NHA.
Otherwise, AWUS036H is still the best.

The adapter is a TP-Link TL-WN722N with Atheros chipset same as the Alfa AWUS036NHA.

AWUS036H need an external power pack to be powered. That's why I prefer the TP-Link. It is smaller and good battery autonomy.

On N7(2013) AWUS036H randomly reboots my device, don't know if a firmware/driver problem or a power problem but it's not so usable. It works good with normal kali on laptop or desktop pc.

Otherwise I have a TP-LINK with Atheros chip that works very well without problems.

Yes, you are right, but the TPLink is only 100mW, and for someone tx power is important.

Here you can find some test between some cards:

Is that the SPIGEN Slim case? What is the CPU usage like with the various tools? If it's low, I'm thinking of flashing a powersaving kernel then turning off a few cores and underclock/undervolt for battery. The thing I'm most worried about is the fragility of the micro USB port. The USB port in my previous Nexus 7 2012 was easily loosen then broke resulting in an extremely painful ordeal that I hope never to repeat. Since then I have taken every measure to avoid using the USB port such as charging through Qi and using wireless for ADB and transferring files.

    @Name Taken,

The CPU usage is not so high, I didn't had time to make some tests but as far as I can see without any custom kernel the battery is quite okay.
At the N5 from pictures I used it with an external WiFi for a long time and did not have any problem with the micro USB port.
I heard about some China not genuine cables that has the under-claws too big and when you unplug the OTG it will broke the micro USB port.

I'm Really Impressed by AWUS036H. I use it with this 12dbi Antenna:

    http://www.ebay.de/itm/251170553968?...84.m1497.l2649

    Just "Rock n' Roll"

Make sure you buy the AWUS036H from an Official ALFA-Networks Distributor!! There are many Crappy Clones..(One Burned my USB-Port)

    Any Recommendations for good Antennas?

So i decided to buy two wireless dongles and im very happy with them i wanted to share this with everybody I bought the Andoer Mini USB Wifi Adapter its speed is at 150Mbps and the chipset is a Atheros AR9271 with 5dBi Antenna, love it cause the card is black and its small in size but the only downfall to it is that the antenna is fixed on the card and you cant change the antenna but works and its small and the fact that its black easy to hide

and went with xaxaxa's suggestion on the TP link TL-WN722N both are small and work flawless thanks everybody !

    heres some pictures for you

i've noticed that people are using external battery packs for keeping the devices powered and charged. is it safe to use a wall outlet instead of a battery pack?

  23. #23
Yea, it is. People use the batteries because we don't tend to be at home when doing this stuff; more likely sitting in a vehicle or something without AC power available.

Simple fix for that is before you start airmon-ng is to type ifconfig wlan0 down change wlan0 to whatever your wireless card is might be wlan0 or wlan1 run that command every time you're gonna use aircrack-ng stuff.
