***, this post dissappeared days ago, I thought it was gone forever; pardon the double post.
Ok, I restored the nexus 7 '13 back to the factory image razor jss15q (wifi and everything worked like new), unlocked, rooted, twrp / supersu, installed nethunter; the wifi stopped working again.
is there any settings or drivers that need to get loaded in the process for wifi to work?
would installing nethunter on the tablet through linux possibly fix this?
What version of android are you running on your tablet before flashing it with nethunter?
Edit:
its a (2013) nexus 7
I was kinda intoxicated and decided to try 2012 version of nethunter on there, got an error but it worked.

Your problem is that you're running android 4.3! You need to be running an AOSP based ROM based on KitKat 4.4.3 or later. I like Paranoid Android personally...
ok, it worked! now to get the alfa recognized as rtl8187 ...
Thanks Gentlemen.
