Install fails on Toshiba Satellite s875d laptop

    Greetings,

New to kali but not to linux.

Hardware - Toshiba Satellite S875D-S7225: A6 2.7GHz AMD processor, 6GB mem, Realtech ethernet controller, Altheros wifi, ATI Radeon GPU.

The install process freezes within 10 seconds after the "Detecting Network Hardware" screen. None of the live versions load either. I've searched the forum and the net for a solution, but no joy.

Another point, I can't get any linux distro to load, Ubuntu, CentOS, Dedian, they all seem to lockup while trying to bring up the display. Oh, I did get gparted's live CD to boot into failsafe mode. Didn't get anything from the logs though.

    Thoughts?

    TIA,

    Dan

I have done some fooling around with the Kali installation on this Toshiba laptop and have more info. Choosing the graphical installation I can see that the install actually hangs during the "Detect Network Hardware" screen. When I say hang I mean that things like caps lock, num lock, nor mouse functions work, and the system remains at that screen for as long as I will leave it.
