TL-WN722N is plug and play? Not for me. Any help appreciated.

    Hello all,

I am yet another clueless newbie trying to learn kali. I bought the tp-link TL-WN722N since it was supposed to work out of the box, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get Kali to recognize it!

I checked out the "Troubleshooting Wireless Drivers" sticky, and I also used the search function to check other threads before I posted. The problem is that the solutions in other threads either don't work for me, or I don't understand the language and how-to's of some of the solutions. I hereby open this thread so that I may ask the questions I need to to get this working.

First things first, I am running Kali on a macbook pro retina 2012 in parallels 9.

Here are the results of some commonly recommended diagnostic steps:

    root@dcvkali:~# airmon-ng

    Interface Chipset Driver
    root@dcvkali:~# lsusb
    Bus 004 Device 002: ID 203a:fff9
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
    root@dcvkali:~# iwconfig
    eth0 no wireless extensions.

    lo no wireless extensions.
    root@dcvkali:~# ifconfig

    collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
    RX bytes:1440 (1.4 KiB) TX bytes:1440 (1.4 KiB)

I have tried changing USB ports, I have messed around with settings in devices --> Network 1 in parallels (though I admittedly don't understand what I'm doing, just blind trial and error.)

Please treat me as though I am five years old. No intermediary steps are obvious to me at my current experience level, kali-wise. I'm willing to try anything to make this work for me! Thank you ahead of time.

    Hi there,

    try ifup wlan0

but your lsusb does not show the adapter. Try it on another computer, it may be DOA.

You can check the following file to see how many wifi adapters your computer knows about

    cat /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules
    chown -R us ./base

Sounds like a bad HUB or extension cable. Plug it directly in a USB port.

Not only is the TL-WN722N plug-and-play, but it works very well and it is sexy.
