Changing screen resolution on Lenovo Yoga 2 pro

I currently run Kali Linus on an external hard drive on my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro. My issue is that the only option for my screen resolution in the display settings is 3200 x 1800 (16:9) and I would upload a screencapture to prove it but 3200 x 1800 isn't accepted as a dimension when uploading. Is there anyway to manually change the resolution either through Terminal or by creating a file? I have tried following the instructions on this page https://memobadz.wordpress.com/2014/...o-2-on-ubuntu/ but I have no idea what the name of my main output is and eDP1 doesn't work for me. Thanks for any help this isn't a pressing issue just an annoyance that no one has seemed to have solved.

I had the same issue and have been trying to understand how Xorg and drivers work. I think I have a low level understanding what the problem is now. I think the problem is that the intel xorg driver is not up to date with the Kali repositories that are enabled by default. I manually downloaded xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.21.15-2~bpo70+1_amd64.deb from http://repo.kali.org/kali/pool/main/...g-video-intel/ I installed it and rebooted and it now if I run Xrandr I see:

Notice eDP1 is there now... It wasn't there before for me either. Also if you look in the logs under /var/log/Xorg.0.log you will see where it successfly loaded the intel driver where as previously it wasn't even trying to load it or would fail trying and revert back to a default driver.

Now to change the resolution.... This is the odd part. When I clicked on the System Settings to get to where I could change my settings it would just freeze. I read somewhere that would need kernel 3.20 for it to interact correctly with the new driver. Well I added the debian repository and updated to Kernel 2.0 but it complained a lot booting up and everything on the desktop was flaky and hanging. I probably didn't need to install the new kernel but since it was one of the steps I tried I thought I would mention it. I rebooted and went backed and picked 3.18 kernel from the boot menu and tried to go to system settings and it worked! I was able to change my resolution. Just a note, when changing resolutions it may take up to 20 seconds to take. I first thought it was hung but it did go through. There are a few things that may not work correctlly that I'm working on now, like clicking on places on the top menu doesn't seem to work but I can load nautilus up ok from the command line if needed. Try a few of these suggestions (at your own risk) and see where you get. I have been trying so many things I may have missed something. I probably will reinstall just to get my system back stable for all the things I tried that probably wasn't needed and I will try to better document what exactly was done.
