    Kali linux persistence boot freezes after "apt-get update"

    Hey guys, I am new here but not so new to linux. I ran
    Code:
    apt-get update && apt-get upgrade
    last night on my persistence kali. I have since not been able to properly boot it. I can boot and it will get to the home screen and everything will seem normal but the mouse disappears and the keyboard doesn't work.

    It is as if the computer is frozen and my only option is to restart. I can boot up from kali live no problem because the update is not saved...

    Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!!

    Having the same problem: input devices (built-in keyboard, external keyboard, mouse, touchpad) don't work after an upgrade. Its not entirely frozen: pluggin in a usb drive still shows up on the desktop. Its just input devices that don't work at all, making kali completely useless, except if you never upgrade.

    -The input devices still work when choosing boot options, and work as long as its not in desktop mode (I can still give in my password for the encrypted drive during startup).

    -Problem is the same after doing upgrade / dist-upgrade.
    -Problem is the same on encrypted/non-encrypted persistent mode.
    -Problem is the same on different usb sticks and different computers.

    Running into the same thing. Different computers, different sticks.

    I posted this in another thread, but I believe this is the same problem:
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    I had the screen/mouse/keyboard/etc lock after apt-get update. After a week+ of messing around I found this line in the logs: kernel: [ 25.430109] i2c_core: disagrees about version of symbol module_layout
    which led me to: https://bugs.kali.org/view.php?id=2155
    so I am getting the bugfix version and will see if that resolves it.....I will test it out tonight and see if it is a resolution.
