AWS EC2 Kali with RDP - GNOME Issue

I've set up an instance on Amazon Web Service EC2 of Kali. I began with the minimal image provided and used the apt-get command to install the full version. I've installed the GNOME desktop environment and xRDP. I've been able to get to a login and successfully login from my Windows Remote Desktop client to the instance. However, once logged in I see "Oh no! Something has gone wrong!".

    1. Is GNOME supported for RDP in an Amazon EC2 instance?
    2. Where do I begin to figure out what is wrong?

As I'm sure you can tell, I am new to Kali and AWS... any help would be greatly appreciated.
