Kali password not accepted at logon

I just installed Kali and set up a password. When I reboot after the installation and try to enter my password, it says "Authentication Failed." I tried caps lock, slowly typing it, tried to enter with possible typos, but nothing worked. I want to know how to reset the password.

If it is the root user than it is probably not possible or at least allot more work than reinstall Kali.

if you have kali 1.1.0 then rest assure you are not the only one who faced that problem and the solution was http://www.geekyshows.com/2013/06/ho...nux-login.html
and i faced it too when i changed my root password in the 1.0.9 distribution and the new password worked properly until i rebooted and then the old/new passwords were not accepted until i did the trick just mentioned

yeah this caught me by surprise as well but just type in root for the Username and then Password is the one you setup during the install

Had this problem with Linux before. It was the Nvidia driver. I got in using the guest acct and the admin user name and password worked fine so I could fix the acct as a guest.
