    Exclamation kali linux runs really very slow and it laggs

    Hello,
    I installed Kali linux v 1.1.0a /64bit on my PC (HP Pavilion DV 7 with processor i7 2.20GHz
    with 8 cores , and 8 GO RAM, 6 Mo Cache , 1 Terra HDD Toshiba) , but I find a problem that kali runs slowly , for exemple when I execute command it takes secondes to runs in place of runing directly , and it do some lagging , so can you help me please ?

    Hi man! Plese provide more information.

    Whitch one command did you execute?
    Did you check the CPU and disk usage?

    Try to send someting liker that, to see the responde time:

    crash@anubis:/usr/share/sqlmap-dev# time ls

    I did "top" command to see if there is some running programs that works with a high pourcent , but I find nothing the max usage of programs with CPU do not exceed the 8% and this is a monitor system screenshot :

    I changed swappiness to 10 ,

    So, about the burp does not makes sense because you need to close to burp to get the time, lets check your HD read speed first:

    hdparm -I /dev/<device> | grep -i speed

    and test the disk withou buffe interference:

    hdparm -t --direct /dev/<device><N>

    Now the write process
    dd if=/dev/zero of=/tmp/wft.dsk bs=8k count=10k
    rm -vf /tmp/***.dsk

    This way we will know if you have any problem with your disk.

    you could temporarily change swappiness value to 0 since you got 8 GB of ram anyway.

    To check the swappiness value

    cat /proc/sys/vm/swappiness should be 60 by default

    To temporarily change swappiness value to 0

    sysctl vm.swappiness=0


    To make permanent

    nano /etc/sysctl.conf

    then add (or change) to read vm.swappiness=0

    I have already 8 GB of RAM SIR that's why I put swappiness to 10

    Do you mean update of system or update of swappiness to 0 ?

    No problem sir about this , but yes I did many updates and upgrades and the problem persists ..
    As I said I install graphic drivers etc.. but nothing is changed unfortunately ...

    Are you still having lag issues with the latest Kali Linux? I have literally half the machine you do and the latest Kali runs fine.

    I am facing the same issue as OP's.
    Specifically, when I use the GUI for navigation between application (even with ALT+TAB), It sometimes takes more than 1 second for it to accomplish which is a great hassle. It even occurs sometimes when I'm typing in the browser (mostly Chrome or Chromium) address bar, it freezes for a second and then 5 characters appear suddenly at a time.
    I monitored the problem for a while and could make it happen on purpose. I opened "htop" and watched the CPU usages. Everything seemed well until I pressed ALT+TAB a bunch of times and the CPU usage of "gnome-shell" rose to 60% from around 6%. When running CPU bound processes this issue becomes a ****** pain.
    Would be glad to find and solve it somehow.
    My machine is an ASUS N46VB laptop (Core i7 3630QM, 8 GB of RAM, enough disk space) which is far more than enough for Kali 2.0.
    Intel graphics driver is installed.
