Installing with degraded BIOS settings. Permanent effect?

Will installing Kali with degraded BIOS settings in order to get around a kernel panic during install result in permanent downgraded performance?

To stop an installation kernel panic that happened constantly during the ‘installing the system…’ stage, right toward the end when trying to ‘update firmware’, the following changes to my BIOS (power Management) had to be made:

    1. Dynamic CPU Frequency Mode: changed from ‘Dynamic Switching’ to ‘Always Low’
    2. Intel Turbo Boost Technology: changed from ‘Enabled’ to ‘Disabled’
    3. SATA Interface Setting: changed from ‘Performance’ to ‘Battery Life’

ALL three settings had to be changed to get a successful install. Interestingly this install did not try to ‘update firmware’ at the end of the ‘installing the system…’ stage. After a successful install I can now change the above BIOS settings back to their previous (default/performance) ones and it boots fine.

Will installing with these BIOS settings result in a permanent performance hit, especially considering the missed ‘update firmware’ stage?

Can anyone recommend a suitable benchmarking tool to examine performance differences between these settings?

    Thanks all, aG.

Edit. System is a Toshiba Satellite NB10 notebook. All worked fine & without these issues when installing Kali 1.0.6 almost twelve months ago; an install I kept updated and used daily until finally a few niggling issues required a fresh install yesterday. Kudos to Offensive Security for providing such a stable platform (I mean my previous one!).

Strangely enough (or not), while updating/upgrading my new install it would freeze when setting up initramfs-tools (0.116kali) … I had to revert my BIOS settings again in order to get through a successful update (update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-3.18.0-kali3-amd64)…

Should I just leave these BIOS settings in their ‘install’ (degraded) configuration? Thanks again, aG.
