Did you check the SHA1 checksum of the ISO?

I figured out how to solve this guys.
This is temporary though and the installation screen is a little "Off-screen".

Boot the USB, > press the down arrow key and go into 'Live' mode.
Once in Live, click on 'Applications' in the upper left > then 'All Applications'
There are three round circles to the right to toggle through the list of applications, click the second or third one until you reach 'Install Kali'
A terminal prompt will flash and you can install.

cdrom error, you must use another soft to make usb boot key. don't use unetbootin but Win32 Disk imager if you use windows.

I've verified the sources are right in the list file, and I've tried it with --fix-missing (which didn't fix it). Is anybody else getting this? Am I showing my noob off and missing something profoundly simple?

That's to upgrade an existing Kali 1.0/1.1 instance to 2.0 (which I have had no luck performing) not to install guest additions. For the guest additions in VirtualBox follow these instructions ... http://docs.kali.org/general-use/kal...tual-box-guest

I would try and avoid a version 1 to version 2 upgrade if at all possible. I've attempted 3 different upgrades and each one has failed in some way. You could try a different repository if you wanted to stick with the upgrade path ... see http://http.kali.org/README.mirrorlist for the different mirrors.

    hi
i have resolved the installation problem whit a iso image burned on a DVD.
    It's definitivly not working.
i have created a USB key with the "dd" command on another machine and it's ok.
if the installation begins with an error on mounting CD ROM, just take off the key and take it on.

    Guys Problem solved
    here is my method.
    1. install kali 2.0 via gaphical install or live.
    2. bypass CD-ROM error, unplug the usb and put in again and press ENTER "TO CONTINUE"
    3. try to install grub if failed dont worry.
    4. DOWNLOAD BOOT-REPAIR-DISK,
    5. Select 64 bit or 32bit according ur kali.
    6. Then burn it on a live-USB key via Rufus or Unetbootin. (do not burn it on CD/DVD if your PC came with Windows8)
    7. Insert the Boot-Repair-Disk and reboot the PC,
    8. Choose your language,
    9. Connect internet if possible
    10. Click "Recommended repair"
    11. Reboot the pc --> solves the majority of bootsector/GRUB/MBR problems
    Enjoy..

My point is that Kali needs to boot normally from Windows and this is not possible with this distribution (Kali 2.0).
We need lot of extra steps to solve problems about Kali 2.0 installation on system. This is not solution. It should be fix.
For example it is not possible to create working bootable USB from Windows with common used tools.
Extra step and solution is to create this USB on another Linux system (e.g. other computer)
Another problem is grub installation. It is not possible to install it from installation.
Extra step and solution for this is to boot in some other live Linux distribution and from there install grub loader.

Those problems should be repaired in this distribution of Kali.
And this problems is refer to Kali Linux 64 bit 2.0 (3.1GB iso img.) and Windows 7/8/10

With Kali Linux 64 bit Light (0.8. GB iso img.) everything goes smoothly, but there you need to install everything manually.
My recommendation is that Kali team open some mirror for update those version to full version. This is good solution and to make Kali Linux 64 bit to install like Light version.

We made both bootable live usb install of kali2.0 -i386 thru windiskmanager32 with no problems at all.

We then used the live usb to install of kali2.0 32 bit -i386 to the hardive as a dual boot XP/linux with no problems except during the Hard drive install the touchpad was not supported but a usb mouse was.

After the hardrive install the touchpad functioned fine.

We did not add the persistence feature to the usb but we can try that if someone was interested.

Suggest you obtain your version of kali thru torrents rather then direct download.

I was having the same issue as everyone else, unplugging and plugging the usb back in when asked about the CD-ROM seemed to fix the issue and the install finished, tis a bit slow booting into 2.0 though.

This worked for me as well (re-inserting USB stick then clicking "yes" to re-search for media)!! Prior i had reverted to burning a DVD to do the install (i was seeing the cd rom not detected error when using several USB stick types, with both kali 2.0 64/32bit and on UEFI / BIOS systems, universal issue among all).. the fix for me (and the user above whom i quoted) is to unplug the install USB, and re-insert it, then press "yes" to re-search for the cdrom media.

obviously at boot-up the USB install media is not being properly mounted (i didn't have the issue with DVDs), unplug the USB install, and re-insert it must remount it properly, thus enabling the install to proceed!

    thanks!
