    Question about kali old repositories

I am still in 1.1.0 version of kali because i dont want to do the change now and also because my laptop for kali is an old one , good hardware , never breaks .
So i have a question , i know that if i change my current repositories from 1.1.0 to the 2.0 repositories i will do an update on my kali to new debian system .
So i dont want that yet , does the 1.1.0 repositories continue receiving updates , or will not have more updates ?
I am asking this because of some important updates that my linux may need , and also because of metasploit updates .

The kali 1.x repos will stay active for the time being.

    Edit:
They are still active, but you'll need to edit your file to point to the new repo for kali v1.0

Is this still true? Tried to apt-get update this morning and got back a bunch of 404's. I then browsed to http://http.kali.org/kali/dists/ and there is no longer a "kali" folder.

I already had anticipated that for the first time i posted this topic .
It looks that KAli programmers are leaving no choice for users using 1.1.0 than migrating to 2.0 by force .
Well , i already posted here in the forum my motives why i dont change to 2.0 right now .
I changed my repositories to debian repositories to maintain updates , at least i can do apt-get dist-upgrade without changing to 2.0 .
I also added today into my repositories the kali rolling links .
you will be able to update the latest security tools with debian repositories , like openssl and others .
I did not yet get any issue in my kali 1.1.0 with these repositories , it is still working flawless .
If any of you will do the same then it is your responsibility .

One of the things that turn me to choose to stay in 1.1.0 , is that 2.0 start all exploitation tools on system startup , so even if you dont use them they will be active .
i know that can be changed , but just by the concept on it i decided to not go thru .

service xxxxx stop/start does not work anymore , to start service you have to write more /etc/init.d/.... start and other things . Well this is my opinion .

I was wondering about the 404's I was getting. Now I know. Buncha **** in my opinion. I've been using this OS since Backtrack and its been awesome until 2.0. I'm not a fan of clunky bloat. Forcing me to go to 2.0 is upgrade **** especially if I don't like that version. Such a pain that I have 1.10 on all my Systems 3 Desktops and 2 Laptops. Only 1 is dual boot with Win7. I think I will upgrade to Parrot instead. Perhaps I will just use Debian and run Katoolin. So many choices. Oh well such as it is.

That sounds to me you don't like the "look" of Kali v2 (rather than Kali itself). By default it is GNOME. You dont have to use GNOME (I personally do not).

How to make GNOME look & act different: https://forums.kali.org/showthread.p...ons-amp-Tweaks
How to switch to XFCE: https://forums.kali.org/showthread.p...r-axiomd-Theme

If thats too much work, rather than download "Kali", download "Kali light" (XFCE rather than GNOME by default & less tools - just need todo "apt-get install kali-linux-full" to get all the same tools back). More information: https://forums.kali.org/showthread.p...ll=1#post49492

    ...or switch OS.

I normally use XFCE on 1.10. I have it as my default desktop environment so that doesn't make it faster for me. I use LXDE on my netbook. Gnome on my Mac but I wanted to try Enlightenment and Mate before the 404's started happening. [I'm not a fan of Mac OS but I really like the way Linux runs on the G5 I got for free] I have a ton of things I do to get Kali the way I want without it breaking. I try the same with 2.0 and it broke the Ethernet. I had to jump through hoops to get Vidalia to install. I like the onions GUI a lot. I had problems with Synaptic in 2.0. Aircrack wouldn't work among other things. So its not that I just don't like the "look" of V2. I think it looks very pretty. I will try doing Kali light, build it from there, and see if that will work for my systems without me feeling like I want to spoon out my eyes from the sockets. Thanks for the advice and links.
