Updated to Kali 2, WiFi no longer connecting (TP-Link WN725N)

    Hello,

I've upgraded my Pi2 to Kali2 from the latest Pi ARM image, I guess 1.1.0. Anyhow, wireless dongle was working fine, I used it to SSH in and update.

After it completed, rebooted and lost connectivity. Connecting through a monitor, I'm able to log in and with a new sudo'd user, can see wireless networks but am unable to connect to anything.

It results in ERROR indicate disassoc. Searching for that error results in extremely vague and random problems. So, what could have changed between versions to prevent this from working as it did previously?

Just adding to my problem, it appears all networking is broken, ethernet won't get an IP either. Stuck at 127.0.0.1 despite blinking and being up.

    Thanks for any help

sounds like maybe the firmware is missing? have you verified in dmesg? honestly without any type of output to us aside from the "ERROR indicate disassoc" - we can't really help. Please provide dmesg output, and lsusb output.

Thanks for the reply, I ended up throwing it in a box and giving up, so I'm really not sure what the issue could have been. However, I decided to start from scratch today. Reinstalled, clean SD card, beginning with the latest Kali image and have encountered a similar issue relating to the wireless dongle. Completely new install, the only changes made have been /etc/network/interfaces being configured for my AP, with the appropriate wlan0 settings.

What occurs is WiFi will only work when the ethernet cable is connected to the Pi. If I boot it without ethernet it will never get a wireless connection. If I boot it with the cable plugged in, they both work, and two IP's are assigned by the router. If I unlpug the cable after getting both IP's, it loses all connectivity. Haven't been able to get beyond this.

Any thoughts would be helpful, I won't give up this time... I promise!

As I said in the first response - please provide dmesg output and lsusb output That is the first step to diagnosing the issue - you can always redirect the dmesg output to a file if you don't have a connection.

    From the dmesg output:

[4.324305] r8188eu: module is from the staging directory, the quality is unknown, you have been warned.

well, it's a staging driver... the quality is going to be ****. i'd suggest getting a better supported wifi card. something with atheros maybe.
