In 2.0.2, boot.ini, bootargs:

hdmimode= m_bpp= vout=

should be:

hdmimode=${m} m_bpp=${m_bpp} vout=${vout_mode}

gen code probably needs to escape the $s.

Whoops, good catch! - I've updated the script, and will try to get a new image pushed out this weekend. For future reference, this would have been better as an issue on the github repo or (preferably) as a bug at bugs.kali.org Thanks!
