Hi all, I first wanted to give you a little background information about myself so that you have a better understanding of where I am coming from.
I am a 3rd year cybersecurity and just wrapped up a course on pen testing and ethical hacking. I have very little experience with Linux so please try to dumb it down for me as much as you can.
I was really smitten with the whole pen test/hacking course and wanted to become more familiar with Kali. I had started off using it in VBox but it had its limitation and then moved to live via USB. I tried to use persistence but I was having no luck given that it was a little bit over my head. I discovered dual boot and figured that was more for me. I did a test install on my Sony Viao (that originally had Windows 7) with success, so I tried it on my MSI with Windows 8.1.
I had followed directions by creating a partion on my hard drive and installed Kali. To my surprise there was not a grub to select Windows 8.1 and it booted automatically into Kali. To make matters worse, Kali will not even boot now. I made a foolish mistake by not backing up my hard drive, but thats not too big a deal considering there was noting of any importance on there anyway. I am currently in the process of restoring my system and I am ready to give it another shot.
I was reading the sticky thread about dual boot and windows 7, Do I want to use those instruction? Can someone help guide me in the right direction? Thanks so much.
