Installed with no wlan0; Now what?

I couldn't figure out how to get Kali to recognize my wlan0 device. It kept reverting to eth0. Either way, I did get Kali installed, but it's only the most basic.

I found another post that said to apply the following sources to my /etc/apt/sources.list file:
deb http://http.kali.org/kali kali main non-free contrib
    deb-src http://http.kali.org/kali kali main non-free contrib
I did this, and now my sources.list file looks like this:
    #

    # deb cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux 7.0 _Kali_ - Official Snapshot amd64 LIVE/INSTALL Binary 20130311-19:56]/ kali contrib main non-free

    #deb cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux 7.0 _Kali_ - Official Snapshot amd64 LIVE/INSTALL Binary 20130311-19:56]/ kali contrib main non-free

    ## Security updates
    deb http://security.kali.org/kali-security kali/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://http.kali.org/kali kali main non-free contrib
    deb-src http://http.kali.org/kali kali main non-free contrib
Despite this, I have been able to get any updates. At all. A fresh install certainly must need an update.
    Any ideas?
Running a Dell Inspiron n5110 with the i5 series cpu, integrated sandybridge gpu, 8G ddr3(maxed), 700G hdd. Running only Kali.

Are you checking software update? And running apt-get update? And apt-get upgrade

  3. This is what your sources.list is suppose to look like. http://wiki.debian.org/Derivatives/Census/Kali

Are you running kali straight from the hd, or within some virtual box? If you are using something like vmware, virtualbox, or parallels, you will not be able to connect to a wireless interface directly unless you can get kali to recognize some sort of USB extension.
