Background:
I had installed Kali on VMware player with 20gb HDD space and 1.5gb of ram to follow along with a course. After updating some libraries (if this is pertinent info, im sure i can figure out which ones), and rebooting, my GUI is not working properly.
The GUI takes much longer to load, and only says "Not listed?" if i select that option and enter root credentials, I get the "a problem has occurred and the system cant recover" nonsense.
I am able to log in through the tty1 terminal. Using the startx command results in the same message as above.
I attempted a useradd to add a new user and that user is now displayed along with "not listed?" , however upon selection, it sort of just goes black for a second and brings me back to the user select screen
any ideas?
