Not able to install the klai linux amd64 in a new fully formatted system.

Hi,

I am trying to install kali 64 bit version on a fully formatted version. It shows the below error while loading the from bootable dvd but continues.
mount: mounting /dev/sda on /media failed: Invalid argument
unmount: can't unmount /media: invalid argument
mount: mounting /dev/sda on /media failed: Invalid argument
mount: mounting /dev/sda1 on /media failed: Invalid argument
unmount: can't unmount /media: invalid argument
mount: mounting /dev/sda1 on /media failed: Invalid argument
mount: mounting /dev/sda2 on /media failed: Invalid argument

But in the further steps of graphical installation it trows a error in the system installation phase saying. "Could not load the base system.system could not figure out how resolve and network mirror is not configured properly" (message may not be the exact one but similar to this). after this i could not go further. I did a lot of searching to resolve this and found that we need to mount the dvd-rom manually, so i tried "mount /dev/sr0 /media/cdrom". But it threw an error saying "not able to mount Input/output error". Now i am out of options and not able to figure out how solve this. Could anyone be able to help me in this.
DVD drive is MATSHITA DVD-RAM.

if it is possible use usb to install Kali, rather then dvd
if it is not possible then burn your dvd at lowest speed, before that always check md5 & sha1 sum

Hey did you ever figure this out? i just got a lenovo x1 3rd gen and have been trying to figure this out for the last 5-6 hrs straight now, my sha1 matches, ive tried Rufus, Lil USB creator, Win32 etc. ive tried every type of partition layout configuration I can think of and STILL the same Installation Failure at Installing system 4% i'm blown away to say the least lol i have a yoga pro 2 that i EFI dual booted with no problem. the only thing i can think of is this error:

mount: mounting /dev/sda on /media failed: Invalid argument
mount: mounting /dev/sda1 on /media failed: Invalid argument

mount: mounting /dev/sda2 on /media failed: Invalid argument

and if anyone else sees this post and has anything useful to add other than check sha1 or not using graphical install or anything pretty much in all the other redundant posts..please do share

Hi,

Just wanted to install kali on vbox and got the same problem like the last post. I also get that mounting failure. The installation continues and then it says: The following step failed: System installation ... I have no clue what to do.

Like duxim said before, you should check md5 & sha1 sum of your downloaded Kali ISO. If the 2 matchs, try another USB key !

Did you check your BIOS settings to see if you are allowing VM?

I think that might be the problem, and youre just associating that with the only message you see before it craps out.

I changed my disk size to 16 GB and RAM to 1024 and then I worked. Previously I had these errors too when choosing 8 GB and 512 RAM for the VM. Also, I did not interfere with the installation process (like browsing on my host machine)
