OK so i really hope this is the place to write this up, i did have a search for my issue extensively and couldn't find anything so figured out a solution some of you might have come across.
so initial steps, setup kali 2.0 on a flash drive to boot - this failed on my XPS630i as it kept coming up "out of memory for specified image"
i thought this can not be right, i have 4GB Ram ddr2, 64-bit cpu etc, we all know the score.
so i got to thinking i have this dell 1950 sitting around, so i swapped out my HDD drom my XPS as that is what i wanted to use along side my windows, booted up kali 2.0 sana (64-bit),
installed kali etc ran the updates, and rather than booting again on the dell 9150 i took it back out put it in the 630i and booted from there and hey presto no issues!
so i don't know if its a kali issue or a ram issue on my system, but everything is working fine
