*** how can I disable this ignorant "slide up" prior to the login

Its annoying. And works kinda crappy in a VM before especially, and still some after, installing vmware tools.

Anyone know how to get rid of it, its not in the screensaver area, and I havent found any posts talking about it.

This isn't the full answer since it doesn't serve with a solution to completely get rid of it, but getting rid of the need to swipe/slide can be a good start. Just start typing the password and the screen shield will go away without the need to swipe. Or press Enter or Esc.

There are threads on other forums related to other distros running the Gnome screen shield and how it is removed. I haven't found any 100% working recipe to get it disabled, but I'm satisfied with the handling above (starting to type the password straight away from the shield screen) so I haven't bothered investigating it further although it's a somewhat annoying "feature" that has been implemented.

    Thanks for the info.

I love gnome but that **** shield makes me, and from searching apparently tons of others, really pissed off.

    Found this too

    gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.session idle-delay 0
