Kali Linux 2.0 Bootable USB Issue with Mac (Mid 2012)

Hi Guys,

Relatively new to these forums. Im having an issue with booting Kali from usb. ive created the bootable usb using terminal and the dd comands. Everything went through fine. When i come to restart my mac, hold to option button down, i get my MAC HDD, Windows and EFI options. If i click windows i get a blank screen and if i click EFI it just freezes for a long while without doing anything. I have rEFInd installed as well.


Please any help on this would be greatly appreciated ive spent the last 2 days trying to figure this thing out!

Ran into the same issue with my 15" MBP Mid 2012, not 100% sure on what throws off EFI boot using usb when compared to using a disk. After some googling I found this usb imaging utility and it works like a charm.

Yes i've tried that one.. but the thing is even with that tool i get to boot manager, it either doesnt recognize the usb or simply freezes completely. Also tried win32 disk imager, tried rufus as well. Ive exhausted all options and still doesnt want to work for me haha

Refind up to date
Format usb with disk-utility.app >partion mbr > MS-DOS FAT

Create iso with unetbootin.

unplug and plus usb.

Boot and at refind boot.
