Did "apt-get update" and "apt-get dist-upgrade" and now Gnome menus are gone?

After a dist-upgrade to Kali 2.0 on my laptop, I am missing the lower toolbar. The upper toolbar is still there, so I can still shutdown, adjust volume etc but if I want to switch between windows I need to go to > Applications > Activities Overview. Kind of a PITA... I can still update and upgrade with no errors, "gnome-panel" tells me that a panel is already running? Cannot add applications to the upper toolbar.

PS: Even if I could get that side menu bar back (which, for some reason worked on my Desktop install), that would be an improvement.

    Any ideas?

Hello Fonestar, Go to Applications, Usual Applications, and Scroll down to Utilities and fire up the Tweak Tool. Under Extensions you need to turn on Window List. Its description is 'Displays a Window List at the bottom of the screen'.
