Kali Linux installation problem -- Writing Data to Disk Not Finishing

    Laptop: Dell Inspiron N5010
    OS: windows 7 Ultimate 32
Dual OS: Kali Linux 2.0 i386 (Trying to install)

    Bootable USB: http://docs.kali.org/downloading/kal...ve-usb-install

    Installation Started..
    Disk partitions:
    1) Manual
    2) Automatic Partition
    3) Write all files to one disk (New Users)

    Followed this procedure as well
    http://linuxbsdos.com/2013/03/24/dua...nd-kali-linux/

Started writing data to disk and nearly 60% done and quitting, Power off command executed. Error in the attachment.

The ISO working good on direct use without install from USB. Installing is the more comfortable way.

I am new to Linux installations and don't understand the error. Let me know if need more info..

    Thanks
    Venkat

I can think of 2 things to check: hash of your download vs what is on the kali website, and have you verified the HD on your laptop is good?

You might also try installing from DVD.

I am using Segate 500 GB and its 6 months old only. No problem with HD. I downloaded the ISO from official kali website only but never checked the hash. I will check it and give a try with DVD. Hope it works and will post the result soon.

    Thanks for the help..

    You're welcome, Venkat

I've had a few defective drives over the years, but it's pretty unlikely these days. Most of the Kali (and BackTrack before that) install problems I've had were due to messed-up downloads (i.e. the hashes didn't match).

    Hi Grid,

Hashes are good (Matched), tried with DVD as well and tried normal install option also. But same Installation stops at 50% when Writing data to disk. "Sent SIGTERM to all processes" getting on normal istall..

    Thanks

In that case, I'd report this to the Kali team at bugs.kali.org

Hey grid one more help. Previously my PC is dual boot with Windows 7 and 8 after that i removed windows 8 and deleted the entry in MSCONFIG. After installing Kali the windows 8 entry showing up at startup with Kali linux and windows 7. So checked in both msconfig and EasyBCD but no entry of Windows 8. How to remove it?

    Thanks
    Venkat

You'll probably need to edit the grub config file. I haven't had to do this myself, so not sure of the right procedure. Haven't used Kali with Windows 8 yet.

    No problem!
